Asian Smoke Tabby Cat Breed

Like the Barilla, the Asian Smoke and the Asian Tabby are part of the Asian Shorthair Group and are covered by the same general standard. The Smoke was first developed in Britain under the name Bur moiré. It does not have the normal tabby's color-banded 'agouti' fur although it carries some tabby markings. The coat may be any of the colors in the same range as the Burmilla, including those with Burmese color restriction, with a silvery-white or near white undercoat. In adults this should be approximately one-third to one-half of the total length of each hair but presenting a full-colored surface, typical of smokes. However, there should also be silvery frown marks on the forehead and silvery rings around the eyes. Ghost tabby markings on the body give the effect of watered silk. The Asian Tabby comes in Ticked, Spotted, Mackerel and Classic (blotched) forms in a similar color range. In the Ticked the agouti pattern should produce an even ticking of two or three bands of darker color extending well down each hair, the face marked with a forehead 'M' and penciling, the tail and legs tabby marked, and dark line down the spine. Asian Spotted Tabbies should have clear spots without agouti hairs, no dark line on the spine but face, legs and tail carrying tabby marks. Classic and Mackerel Tabbies follow the usual requirement for these patterns.

Medium length and thickness with firm muscle, a straight back and a generous but not disproportionately broad chest; legs medium length, the hind legs slightly longer than the front, paws tending to an oval shape; tail medium to long, medium thick, tapering slightly to a rounded tip.

A short wedge with a distinct nose break apparent in profile, width between the ears which are medium to large, round-tipped and continue the angle of the upper part of the facet produce a butterfly-wing outline from the front.

Full, well apart and slightly oriental in set but neither almond nor round; color yellow through to chartreuse, except in silver-coated cats for which green is preferred.

Short, fine and close-lying, slight ear tufts acceptable.

Black, blue, chocolate, lilac, red, caramel, apricot, cream; black, blue, chocolate, lilac or caramel tortie; any of these colors with a Burmese color restriction and any of these in silver form.
