Cymric Cat Breed

The Cymric is a longhaired version of the Manx. Its name is the word in theWelsh language for Wales and was chosen to suggest proximity to the Isle of Man,for which the Manx is named. Though both short and longhaired forms of the Manxare known on the Isle of Man it was not until longhaired kittens appeared inCanadian litters in the 1960s that the Cymric was developed as a breed. Although the Cymric has a conformation identical to that of the Manx in everyrespect except for its coat, it often looks a larger animal because the heavier paddingof its undercoat, especially when it lives in colder areas, gives the impression ofgreater bulk. Cymrics have a reputation for quiet voices and confident personalities. As in the Manx, Cymric kittens may occur without tails (rumpy), with vestigal carti-lage only tails (rumpy-riser), stump tails (stumpy), short but otherwise normal tails(longy), and full tails. Similarly, the combination of two Manx genes is fatal and kit-tens die at the foetal stage.
