European Shorthair Kitten Breed

The European Shorthair is a cat that has developed naturally as a European domestic type. Like the British Shorthair, it is robust, strong and muscular but it differs in several respects. It is longer in the leg and should not have a cobby look, and its head is rather longer with larger ears and eyes that are set slightly obliquely. The Fife and associations affiliated to it give a quite different set of standards from the British Shorthair and, although the GCCF has tended to consider this an identical cat to the British type, the establishment of the CA of Britain as an alternative registry has brought the Fife standard into the British show world too. In some countries, in addition to the normal white coat, an albino color variety is recognized in which the white coat is due to the recessive albino gene not the dominant white gene: such cats do not have the problem of deafness which is genetically linked to blue-eyed white varieties.

A rather stocky cat with a medium-length body set on strong thickish legs with round paws, not quite so cobby as the British Shorthair. The tail, of medium length, can reachback to between the base of the ribcage and the shoulder.

Rounded with the muzzle very slightly longer than in the European Shorthair so that it isa little longer than it is wide. The profile has a slight indentation at eye level, ears arerounded and well apart.

Large, round and set well apart. Blue, orange or oddeyes with white fur; green,gold or orange copper with coats of other colors.

Short, very thick and firm to the touch.

All solid colors, bicolorand tabby patterns.
