Longhair Scottish Fold Cat Breed

Longhair Scottish Fold Cat Breed

The longhaired Scottish Fold was recognized by the International Cat Association (TICA) but this is the only registration body to accept the breed, although the Longhaired Scottish Fold has been bred in Britain and the USA. The breed had its origin in a drop-eared kitten, one of a litter of cats with normal ears, born on a farm in Scotland, from which the shorthaired Scottish fold was developed. This breed comes from the same stock as the shorthaired type and it has a similar conformation but, of course, with long fur. A medium-sized cat, it has a sturdy, well-rounded body, even along its length carrying a round head with prominent cheeks on a short neck. The ears are set in a cap-like fashion to expose a rounded cranium. They are comparatively small and fold forward and downward. A tightly folded ear is preferred to a loose fold and a large ear. At birth the ears are pricked, the drop not becoming apparent until the kittens are about a month old. A wide range of colors is accepted. Eye color should be as appropriate to the dominant color of the fur.

Medium size, rounded with no thickening of legs or tail. Long tapering tail preferred. Neatpaws with well-rounded toes.

Well-rounded with firm chin and jaw; well-rounded whisker pads. Short nose. Small ears with rounded tips, folded forward and down.

Large, well-rounded and separated by a broad nose, wide open and with a sweet expression.

Soft, dense and plush, so thick it stands away from the body.

Any cat coot and pattern except for chocolate and lavender (lilac) and those with darker Siamese-type points.
